COMMITTEES

CTASLA offers numerous opportunities for individuals to become involved with chapter business. Elections are held annually in early August for Executive Committee positions, but anyone can serve as an ad hoc member of the other committees. For more information about available positions, please contact the Executive Committee at admin@ctasla.org for more information.

Programs

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Standing Committee

Consists of 13 positions with different terms filled by election. Additional Information about the responsibilities and terms for each position are available on the Elections page.

PROGRAMS COMMITTEE

Ad Hoc Committee

 

Administered by the Vice President of the Executive Board. Active throughout the year which multiple subcommittees working on individual events. We are currently seeking ad hoc members for this committee to help plan and run events.

Chair: Sean Ragan

Duties:

  • To host at least 12 credits per year of continuing educational programs

  • To convene subcommittees to plan and run each individual program

  • To report the profit/loss statement to the Executive Committee for each program

Term:

  • No limit for the Chair or ad hoc members

Advocacy

ADVOCACY COMMITTEE

Ad Hoc Committee

 

Consists of a Chair appointed by the President of the Executive Board and any number of ad hoc volunteer members. Active throughout the year with an emphasis during the Connecticut General Assembly term. We are currently seeking ad hoc members for this committee.

Chair: Aris Stalis

Duties:

  • To track state and federal legislation affecting the practice of landscape architecture.

  • To propose and/or support legislation beneficial to the profession.

  • To conduct outreach to state and federal lawmakers regarding the importance of the profession.

  • To host an annual Site Tour program showcasing an important built work in the state done by a landscape architect.

  • To host an annual Statehouse Day to advocate for landscape architecture as essential to the health, safety, and welfare of the general public.

Membership

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

Ad Hoc Committee

 

Consists of a Chair appointed by the President of the Executive Board and any number of ad hoc volunteer members. Active throughout the year on a rolling basis. We are currently seeking ad hoc members for this committee.

Chair: Barbara Yaeger

Duties:

  • To maintain and grow chapter membership

  • To develop new membership initiatives

Term:

  • No limit for the Chair or ad hoc members

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

Ad Hoc Committee

 

Consists of a Chair appointed by the President of the Executive Board and any number of ad hoc volunteer members. Active primarily in March through May to review applications. We are currently seeking ad hoc members for this committee.

Chair: Louis Fusco

Duties:

  • To advertise the Karen Ann Shopis-Fox Memorial Scholarship to accredited programs of landscape architecture.

  • To advertise the Landscape Architecture Environmental Stewardship Scholarship to high school seniors and non-profit organizations serving college-bound teens.

  • To undertake implicit bias training.

  • To review scholarship applications in a manner consistent with training received.

  • To award scholarships to applicants who best reflect the intention for which the scholarship was established.

Publications

PUBLICATIONS COMMITTEE

Ad Hoc Committee

 

Consists of a Chair appointed by the President of the Executive Board and any number of ad hoc volunteer members. Active throughout the year with increased engagement near publishing deadlines. We are currently seeking ad hoc members for this committee

Chair: Lauren Wholey, Editor

Duties:

  • To develop and publish at least two issues of The Connecticut Landscape Architect magazine per year

  • To develop and publish the CTASLA Annual magazine each spring.

Term:

  • No limit for the Chair or ad hoc members

AWARDS COMMITTEE​

Ad Hoc Committee

Consists of a Chair appointed by the President of the Executive Board and any number of ad hoc volunteer members. Primarily active in October, November, and December corresponding with the professional awards submission and presentation at the Holiday Party. We are currently seeking a chair and ad hoc members for this committee.

Chair: Vacant

Duties:

  • To solicit submissions for the Professional and Student Design Awards

  • To receive and review submissions for completeness and eligibility

  • To transmit submissions to a peer jury for judging

  • To prepare framed award certificates

  • To present awards to recipients at the Holiday Party

Holiday Party

HOLIDAY PARTY COMMITTEE

Ad Hoc Committee

Consists of a Chair appointed by the President of the Executive Board and any number of ad hoc volunteer members. Primarily active in October, November, and December corresponding with the Holiday Party We are currently seeking a chair and ad hoc members for this committee.

Chair: Vacant

Duties:

  • To select the venue for the party

  • To select the menu for the party

  • To set the schedule for the evening

  • To coordinate the awards presentation with the Awards Committee

  • To run the event on the day-of

Website

WEBSITE COMMITTEE

Ad Hoc Committee

Consists of a Chair appointed by the President of the Executive Board and any number of ad hoc volunteer members. Active on a continuous basis to keep the website updated with current news and events. We are currently seeking ad hoc members for this committee.

Chair: Rachel Meier

Duties:

  • To maintain the www.ctasla.org web domain and hosting availability at all times

  • To update the website with current information as requested by the Executive Committee or other committee chairs

  • To create new webpages as necessary to share information with chapter members.

Term:

  • No limit for the Chair or ad hoc members​

Fellows

FELLOWS COMMITTEE

Ad Hoc Committee

Consists of a Chair appointed by the President of the Executive Board and any number of ad hoc volunteer members. Active during the fall and winter during the application period for ASLA. We are currently seeking ad hoc members for this committee; current chapter fellows are strongly encouraged to participate.

Chair: Shavaun Towers

Duties:

  • To nominate or recruit eligible chapter members to apply for ASLA fellows or medal recognition

  • To review and support applications to ASLA 

Term:

  • No limit for the Chair or ad hoc members​

Election

ELECTION COMMITTEE

Standing Committee

 

Consists of a chair and up to two members, approved by the Executive Committee, the chair being the President-elect. It shall be the committee’s duty to run the election for each office of the Chapter as prescribed in Article 8 of the Bylaws. This committee is primarily active in July and August. We are seeking ad hoc members for this committee.

Chair: Rachel Meier

Duties:

  • To nominate or recruit eligible chapter members for Executive Board positions

  • To administer the annual elections and tabulate the ballot responses received

  • To report the results to national ASLA upon receipt of the official results from the Tellers Committee

Term:

  • No limit for ad hoc members

Tellers

TELLERS COMMITTEE

Standing Committee

 

The Tellers Committee shall consist of a chair and up to two members, approved by the Executive Committee, the chair being the Past-President. None of whom shall be on the Elections Committee. This committee is active in September. We are seeking ad hoc members for this committee.

Chair: Daniel Grannis

Duties:

  • Count election ballots and other mail ballots submitted to the Chapter membership.

  • Submit a written report on the results of each ballot to the President with a copy to the Secretary

Term:

  • No limit for ad hoc members

Bylaws

CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS COMMITTEE

Standing Committee

 

Consists of a Chair and up to two members, approved by the Executive Committee, the Chair being the Secretary. We are currently seeking ad hoc members for this committee.

Chair: Allison Cassella

Duties:

  • To draft changes in the Chapter’s Constitution and Bylaws requested by the Executive Committee

  • To recommend other changes as may be desirable and also as may be necessary for consistency with the Society’s Constitution and Bylaws.
