ELECTIONS

CTASLA offers numerous opportunities for elected positions. All positions along with their responsibilities can be found below. CTASLA Elections are typically held annually in late July through the end of August. Interested in running for any of the positions below? Great! Please reach out to the Executive Committee at admin@ctasla.org. For any additional information regarding elected positions, you can refer to Article 8 of the CTASLA Bylaws.

Not yet a Full member but interested in holding an officer position? We still want to hear from you! Our Executive Committee is currently holding a vote with our Full membership to allow Associate members to hold office as President-Elect, President, and Vice President. We will notify all nominees of their confirmed eligibility upon affirmative vote of the revision.

TRUSTEE

Duties:

  • To be informed on Chapter and Society goals and objectives, policies and procedures, programs and services, and activities and events

  • To serve as an officer on the Chapter's Executive Committee and serve as the Chapter representative on the Board of Trustees of the Society

  • To bring the Chapter perspective to the Board of Trustees and the national perspective to the Executive Committee and members of the Chapter

  • To facilitate the conduct of the business of the Board of Trustees by serving on standing councils or committees, special study groups or task forces, or as a representative or delegate of the 12 Society

  • Perform other duties that may be assigned or delegated by the Board of Trustees of the Society and the Executive Committee of the Chapter.

 

Term:

  • Full Member elected for a term of three (3) years. The trustee shall not serve more than two (2) consecutive terms.

Trustee

PRESIDENT

Duties:

  • Set the time, place, and agenda for meetings of the Executive Committee

  • Call special meetings of the Chapter

  • Preside at meetings of the Chapter and the Executive Committee

  • Represent and act for the Chapter as directed by the Executive Committee and consistent with the policies of the Society as established by the Board of Trustees

  • In consultation with the Executive Committee, appoint the chairs and members of standing committees, other committees, and any special study groups or task forces

  • Dismiss appointees for failure to act or other cause

  • Serve as a member of the Chapter Presidents Council

  • Oversee the management and administration of Chapter programs and budgets as adopted by the Executive Committee

  • Designate and relieve an acting president

  • Appoint interim trustees when vacancies occur during term

  • Provide supporting statements to the Society for Emeritus Status, Limited Status, Temporary Limited Status, and Waver of Dues applicants

  • Preparation of transmittal letter for Fellow nominations, report on the state of the Chapter at the annual meeting of the Chapter

  • Perform other duties that may be assigned or delegated by the Executive Committee.

 

Term:

  • The President shall be a Full Member elected for a term of three (3) years:

    • President-elect (Year 1)​

    • President (Year 2)

    • Past President (Year 3)

  • In any given year, each of the three roles will be filled by a different individual. Only the individual fulfilling the second-year duties will be considered as the President.​

  • The President-elect will coordinate duties with the President to learn the operations of the Executive Committee and ASLA.

  • The Past President will continue to assist the President during the transition period and as may be required thereafter. Individuals serving in this role may be elected to and hold other officer positions if desired.

President

VICE PRESIDENT

Duties:

  • Manage chapter continuing education programs and webinars

  • Delegate program planning and execution through the Programs Committee

  • Oversee of LA CES credit approvals, certificates, and recordkeeping

  • Assist and perform duties that may be assigned or delegated by the President

Term:

  • Full Member elected for terms of one (1) year

Vice President

SECRETARY

Duties:

  • Maintain a record of the proceedings of the business meetings of the Chapter and the Executive Committee

  • Prepare and issue notices of the meetings of the Chapter and the Executive Committee

  • Serve as chair of the Committee of Tellers

  • Serve as chair of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee

  • Maintain the Constitution and Bylaws of the Chapter

  • Certify documents

  • Perform other duties that may be assigned or delegated by the President

Term:

  • Full or Associate Member elected for a term of two (2) years

Secretary

TREASURER

Duties:

  • Collect all fees, dues, charges, and other funds due the Chapter

  • Be the custodian of all Chapter funds and disburse such funds only as authorized by the Executive Committee

  • Keep the accounts of the Chapter that shall be open at all times to inspection by the Executive Committee

  • Present quarterly reports on the financial condition of the Chapter and year end financial statements to the Executive Committee

  • Perform other duties that may be assigned or delegated by the President

Term:

  • Full or Associate Member elected for a term of two (2) years

Treasurer

AT-LARGE MEMBERS

Duties:

  • Help prepare content for chapter newsletters

  • Update the chapter website

  • Administer chapter social media accounts

  • Administer chapter membership and recruitment strategies

  • Host Emerging Professionals events and LARE preparation courses

  • Coordinate programming with the Program of Landscape Architecture at UConn

  • Administer the annual Professional and Student Design Awards

  • Assist the Treasurer with administering the chapter scholarships

  • Assist the chapter lobbyist with legislative bill tracking, advocacy campaigns, and licensure defense

  • Help prepare The Connecticut Landscape Architect and the Annual magazines for printing and distribution

  • Help the Vice President administer chapter programs

  • Perform that may be assigned or delegated by the Executive Committee of the Chapter

 

Term:

  • Full or Associate Members elected for terms of two (2) years. Terms are alternating.

    • Three (3) Members-at-Large have terms beginning in odd years

    • Three (3) Members-at-Large have terms beginning in even years
