About the Event

Calling All Landscape Architects!

Please join ASLA Connecticut, The City of Bridgeport, Groundwork Bridgeport, UConn School of Landscape Architecture, The Trust for Public Land, and the National Park Service Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program for a design charrette along the Yellow Mill Corridor in Bridgeport, CT.

This event will join professionals, students, and community members in a three-part program. The first part of this program is a site walk of the Yellow Mill Corridor on Saturday, March 25. The site walk will depart from the Bass Pro Shops parking lot at 1:00 p.m. (1 Bass Pro Drive, Bridgeport, CT 06608).

Be sure to bring comfortable walking attire, dress for the weather, and bring materials needed for drawing and taking photos and notes in the field. Desired outcomes of the site walk include an introduction of design teams, confirmation of sites and priorities, and identification of site conditions and opportunities.

The site walk will be followed by a Design Charrette at the end of March, which will produce ideas to be developed further by UConn LA students as part of their senior capstone course. Final student presentations to the community will occur in the first week of May.

Design Challenge: To create short-term activations and long-term design proposals for a select site along the Yellow Mill Corridor. Proposals should provide connectivity for the Bridgeport Waterfront Pathway; heal and protect the shoreline using nature-based solutions; and create a place for all Bridgeport community members to relax and enjoy the waterfront.

For accommodations, more information, and to RSVP to the Site Walk, please email Stephanie Stroud: stephanie_stroud@nps.gov
